Stain Removal Procedures

Any professional carpet cleaner worth is salt knows you don't blind start using spot removers on a stain without first knowing what the stain is. This is the best way to irreversibly set the stain.

If you know what the stain is good! Follow the procedures outlined below. The quicker you address the problem the better your results will be.

If you have no idea what the stain is do a little detective work first. Notice the art to the left. Obviously the family is enjoying a meal together. All goes well until 4 months later you move the table to vacuum underneath and discover a stain.

Calm down and start using those CSI detective powers. What clues do you have that will help you identify the stain?

The stain is under the dining room table. Most likely it is some food or beverage stain.

The color of the stain can help in identification. Is it yellow? Maybe it is a fugitive dye stain from the mustard used on the hamburger.

Does it appear to have some viscosity to it? Perhaps some special sauce used to dip the French fries.

Does it appear to have spread out and soaked in quickly? It could be coffee, juice, wine or some other beverage.

Did you come home a find your pet with a guilty look on its face? Could be urine, loose stool or vomit.

Did you husband track in grease or oil from the garage? Children mud from the yard.

Some of these stains are going to require more than one product or procedure to remove them. Despite the advertising spin there is no one product that is going to be effective on all stains.

If after using your deductive reasoning skills, you still have no idea what the stain is first start with a neutral spotter such as Effortless. The beauty of this product is that it works on 90% of the stains and is unlikely to set the stains that it does not remove.

BEFORE YOU START

1. Before you start pretest spotting procedures and chemicals on an inconspicuous area to ensure product or method will not remove or change the color.
2. Before you start vacuum to remove loose soils.
3. When removing inks always start with Kleenco’s Kleen-Tough. Follow with Kleenco’s Effortless and extract the spotters using Carpet-Brite.
4. After the stain is visibly removed STOP your stain removal efforts. It is not necessary to continue.
5. Always rinse spotters out of the carpet with water.

Before You Start

HOW TO REMOVE BLOOD STAINS

1. Apply a generous amount of Micro-Solve to the stain. Agitate with a carpet spotting brush. (Cover with SaranWrap and allow the natural enzymes time to digest the stain.
2. Apply Kleenco Effortless, agitate. Blot or extract using Carpet-Brite Extraction Detergent.

HOW TO REMOVE CANDLE WAX

1. Lay a white Turkish towel over the stained area. Apply heat to the towel using an iron set on highest heat (do not use steam.)
2. Iron wax into towel.
3. If any residual wax remains remove it with D-Solver.
4. If any dye or coloring from wax remains, use Kleenco’s Red Medic to remove it.

FRESH COFFEE STAINS

1. Blot up as much as possible.
2. Apply Effortless to the stain, blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.

OLD COFFEE STAINS

1. Apply Kleen-Oil to the stain, blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.
2. Apply Coffee-Out to stain, wait 5-15 seconds and blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.
3. Rinse with water or extract clean using Carpet Brite.

HOW TO REMOVE CRAYON & FELT TIP MARKER STAIN

1. Apply Kleenco’s Kleen-Tough to a clean, white cloth and blot the area. If crayon appears on cloth, apply Kleen-Tough directly to the stain, agitate and blot.
2. Rinse with Effortless or extract clean using Carpet-Brite.
3. If no crayon appears on cloth apply Effortless to the stain and blot with clean absorbent toweling.

HOW TO REMOVE FRUIT DRINK STAINS

1. Apply Kleenco’s Red Medic to the stain. Cover solution with a clean, white Turkish towel slightly dampened with water.
2. Heat towel with an iron set to the highest heat. Apply heat for approximately 15-20 seconds. Repeat this procedure until stain is completely removed.

HOW TO REMOVE FOOD STAINS

1. Remove excess food soil.
2. Apply Effortless directly to the stained area. Blot with absorbent toweling.
3. On especially stubborn food soils use Kleenco’s Micro-Solve in place of Effortless.

Grease and Oil

Apply Kleen-Tough directly to the stain. Agitate, working from the outer edges of the stain to the center. This will prevent the stain from spreading.

Lay a clean, white absorbent towel over the spotting solution and tamp with a spotting brush. Repeat as needed.

Rinse with Effortless or extract clean using Carpet Brite.

Chewing Gum

1. Apply Gum-Remover directly to stain.
2. Score gum using a scraper or putty knife and allow gum remover to penetrate the soil.
3. Using a bone scrapper or dull knife gently agitate the solution.
4. After gum is removed rinse with water and blot dry.

Lipstick

1. Apply Kleen-Tough directly to the stain. Agitate, working from the outer edges of the stain to the center. This will prevent the stain from spreading.
2. Lay a clean, white absorbent towel over the spotting solution and tamp with a spotting brush. Repeat as needed.
3. Rinse with Effortless or extract clean using Carpet-Brite.

Odors of all Types

1. Apply Kitty Scram directly to the source of the odor. It may be necessary to pull carpet away from floor and treat the carpet back, pad, and tack strip.  You can find the source of urine odors by turning out the room lights and shining a black light onto the carpet. Anyplace you see the carpet fluorese is a source of odor. For particularly troublesome spots in the center of the room use a large syringe to inject Kitty-Scram in the carpet pad.
2. After treating back of carpet spray a light mist on the carpet surface. Cover area with a damp towel and allow to dry.
3. If large areas of the carpet are saturated with urine it might be necessary to replace the carpet. If you decide to do so make sure you treat the subfloor with  liberal dose of Kitty scram.

How To Remove Oil Base Paint Stains

1. Apply Kleen-Tough directly to the stain. Agitate, working from the outer edges of the stain to the center. This will prevent the stain from spreading.
2. Lay a clean, white absorbent towel over the spotting solution and tamp with a spotting brush. Repeat as needed.
3. Rinse with Effortless or extract clean using Carpet Brite.

How To Remove Laytex Base Paint Stains

1. Scrape excess paint from carpet using a bone scraper or dull knife.
2. Soak a towel in hot water. Lay it over the stain and allow 2 - 5 minutes for moisture to penetrate the paint. Scrape again to remove any loosened paint. Apply a solution of Kleen-Tough diluted 50/50 with water to the stain. Agitate and blot dry.
3. Rinse with Effortless or extract clean using Carpet Brite

Shoe Polish

Apply Kleen-Tough directly to the stain. Agitate, working from the outer edges of the stain to the center. This will prevent the stain from spreading.

Lay a clean, white absorbent towel over the spotting solution and tamp with a spotting brush. Repeat as needed.

Rinse with Effortless or extract clean using Carpet Brite.

HOW TO REMOVE URINE STAINS FROM CARPETING

1. Blot up as much as possible.
2. Apply Pet-Out to the stain, blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling. Use Kitty Scram to remove urine odors.

HOW TO REMOVE STAINS CAUSED BY VOMIT FROM CARPETING

1. Remove as much of the soil as possible.
2. Apply Kleen-Oil to the stain, blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.
3. Apply Pet-Out to stain, wait 5-15 seconds and blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.
4. Rinse with water or extract clean using Carpet Brite.

HOW TO REMOVE STAINS CAUSED BY STOOLS FROM CARPETING

1. Remove as much of the soil as possible.
2. Apply a generous amount of Micro-Solve, cover with saran wrap and allow enough time for the solution to digest stain (up to 24 hours). Repeat as needed.
3. Apply Kleenco Double-Duty (EPA registered disinfectant) allow to remain 10 minutes.
4. Blot or extract.

HOW TO REMOVE WINE STAINS FROM CARPETING

1. Blot up as much of the spill as possible.
2. Apply Kleen-Oil to the stain, blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.
3. Apply Kleen-Tan to stain, wait 5-15 seconds and blot with clean, white, absorbent toweling.
4. Rinse with water or extract clean using Carpet Brite.
